Freight moves through two dedicated freighters — the Airbus A330-200P2F and the Ilyushin Il-76 — alongside belly capacity on our passenger fleet.

In 2023 Turkmenistan Airlines became the first operator in Central Asia to fly the A330-200P2F, one of the most efficient converted freighters flying today.

Air freight is one of the principal services of Turkmenistan Airlines. Our operation runs through the cargo terminal at Ashgabat International Airport — the largest and most advanced air cargo facility in the region, and a natural logistics hub between Europe and Asia.

Our dedicated freighters are two Airbus A330-200P2F and two Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft. In 2023 Turkmenistan Airlines became the first operator in Central Asia to fly the A330-200P2F.

The terminal handles 200 tonnes of cargo per annum across a total area of 17,174 square metres. Inside there is an air cargo ramp with five aircraft stands, separate export and import zones, cooling facilities and storehouses for different categories of cargo.

Dedicated storage is available for highly perishable commodities, valuables, medicines, radioactive materials, agricultural produce and livestock. The handling and storage systems meet international standards and requirements.

Handling is automated. An ETV system — Elevating Transfer Vehicle — moves palletised cargo between the ramp, the storage areas and the loading docks, with barcodes scanned at each stage into a central data centre.

The import and export sections have four loading docks each. Export cargo is X-ray screened before it reaches the dock, and the terminal includes an automated storage and retrieval system for enlarged unit load devices.

The site also hosts the mail distribution centre of the Turkmenpochta State Company, with offices for the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the Veterinary Service on the same premises — so customs and veterinary formalities are handled without leaving the terminal.
